Johnny DeLaCruz led the Rogues with five RBI

MARYSVILLE, Ca. – The Medford Rogues (15-6) defeated the Marysville Gold Sox (6-14), 13-9 on Wednesday night at Colusa Casino Stadium.

In the first inning, the Rogues scored six times off of four hits, there were three batters walked and one batter hit. Connor Lowrie (Blackhawk JC) broke the gates open with his 23rd RBI of the season to score Davis Delorefice (Utah) from third.  Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman) came up to bat with one out to single up the middle to score Eric Yang (UC Santa Barbara) and Alex Isola (Utah). Braden Stutzman (Oregon) recorded his first hit of the 2017 season for the Rogues on a single, and would later advance to second on a throwing error to third. Johnny DeLaCruz (Louisiana-Monroe) singled to score Hellweg and Stutzman. That brought up the second baseman Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) who would walk and later advance to third after DeLaCruz scored on the standup double from Delorefice.

Jaiden France (San Jose State) came into pitch with a six-run lead over the Gold Sox, the Sox got one runner on base with an error by Valenzuela-Reece but the Sox would do no damage as the France got the next two batters on fly outs.

Yang started the second inning with a standup double, Isola popped up to the Sox third basemen. The Rogues veteran Connor Lowrie would then be walked for the fourth walk of the game; a pitch from Sox pitcher Garrett OCallaghan then hit Hellweg moving all runners up one base. Stutzman flew out to the second basemen for the second out of the inning; DeLaCruz then recorded the fifth walk of the game, scoring Yang. Valenzuela-Reece struck out swinging to end the inning.

France came back out for the second inning only allowing two hits and no runs, leaving one runner on base. Valenzuela-Reece recorded his first double play of the game to help get the Rouges out of a jam.

During the third inning the Rogues scored four runs on three hits, Jayden Hanna (Lane CC) was hit by a pitch and would soon be replaced by Bryce Tilton (Western Oregon) at third base. Yang singled to advance Hanna to third; Yang would then advance to second on a walk to Isola. Lowrie would then be the seventh walk of the game scoring Hanna from third and advancing the base runners. Hellweg singled scoring Yang, moving the base runners up one spot. Stutzman struck out swinging for out number two, DeLaCruz singled scoring Isola and Lowrie. Valenzuela-Reece lined out third for the final out of the inning.

During the bottom of the third inning, France allowed three runs off of five hits leaving one runner on base.

During the top of the fourth inning, the Gold Sox were able to keep the Rogues to only one hit, that hit coming from Yang making him 3-3 on the night.

In the bottom of the fourth, Scotty Wright (Colorado Christian) came in for Delorefice at shortstop, Josh Berman (Clark CC) subbed in for Connor Lowrie at first base. Caleb Smith (Linn-Benton CC) came in for Jake Hellweg at center, moving Stutzman from first base to right field. France recorded his first strikeout of the game, and only allowed one hit for the Gold Sox.

Berman sent the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to lead off the top of the fifth, making the score 12-3. The Rogues went three up three down after Berman's solo shot.

France allowed one walk in the bottom of the fifth, but then put the Sox down in order.

The Rogues were kept to no hits at the top of the sixth inning. Wright would be hit by a pitch and then advance to second on a walk to Yang.

Nick Parr (Western Oregon) would come in to pitch for Jaiden France in the bottom of the sixth inning. Parr allowed only one hit and then next three batters would ground to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh inning Berman led off the inning but was not able to reach base, Caleb Smith would advance to first on a walk and then advance to third on a single by Stutzman. Smith would then score off of a sac fly by DeLaCruz.

During the bottom of the seventh inning, the Rogues started with Parr who would allow one hit and walk three batters before being replaced by Bobby Wood (Mission College). Wood would then give up a grand slam to Andrew Shebloski. Wood then gave up a solo shot to left and was replaced by Ryan Carle (Pacific). Carle came in with two outs and struck out the third batter to end the Sox’s threat.

The Sox kept the Rogues from getting a hit during the top of the ninth inning. Wright led off the inning but would not able to make it on base. Tilton would then ground out to short and Yang would strike out for the third out.

Carle came back in giving up only one hit and striking out his second batter of the night. The Sox left one runner on base.

During the top of the ninth inning the Rogues had one hit off of the Berman’s standup double, Smith would then be walked. Stutzman flew out to left for out number one, the Sox would then turn two to end the inning.

Carle came back out for the final inning before giving up a solo shot to start the inning. He would then get the next two batters on groundouts before being replaced by Aaron Hutchinson (Lane CC). Hutchinson threw one pitch to get the batter to fly out to Valenzuela-Reece at second.
