PORTLAND, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (25-9) defeated the Portland Pickles (14-19) 12-4 on Wednesday night at Walker Stadium.

In direct contrast of Game 2, the Rogues got the scoring going early in Game 3. RBI singles by Johnny Delacruz (Louisiana-Monroe) and Braden Stutzman (Oregon) put the Rogues up 2-0 in the first inning.

Cole Percival (UC Riverside) went 5+ innings; he struck out six, and surrendered four runs on four hits. Most of the damage against Percival came in the bottom of the first inning on a tough-luck play.

With the bases loaded and one out, Pickles catcher Tate Budnick hit a soft ground ball up the middle. Shortstop Davis Delorefice (Utah) and second baseman Bryce Tilton (Western Oregon) were both in position to make what would have been a routine, inning-ending double-play, but the ball hit the second base bag and caromed off into left-centerfield. Unfortunately for Percival, the fluke play had to be ruled a hit, and the runs scored were earned.

However, Percival did not let that early misfortune phase him. He would blank the Pickles across the next four innings before surrendering a single run in the sixth inning, which prompted acting Head Coach Jeff Lyle to pull the right-hander from Riverside, CA.

Aaron Hutchinson (Lane CC) came on in relief for Percival; he pitched two shutout innings and struck out two.

Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman) robbed Alex Henwood of a home run in right field in the fifth inning. Hellweg used all 6’2 of his frame plus the glove to make the catch at the three-foot wall, tumbled over it feet over end into the stands, and managed to hold on to the ball for the out.

Hellweg had another terrific catch in the sixth inning. He made a sliding catch on a ball hit right at him, and fired it over to Delorefice who stepped on second base for the force out to complete the double play.

Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) reached base every at bat. He went 2-2 with two runs scored, two RBI, and three walks.

Alex Isola (Utah) went 2-5 with four RBI and a run scored.

Johnny Delacruz went 3-4 with three RBI and a walk.

Caleb Smith (Linn Benton CC) went 2-4 with three runs scored and a walk.

Bobby Wood (Mission) pitched the final two innings; he struck out three and gave up 0 earned runs.
