Rogues Nearly Complete Comeback, Drop Game Two

MEDFORD, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (25-11) fall to the Lincoln Potters (23-12) 6-4 on Saturday night at Harry & David Field.

The Rogues’ comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning fell just short on Military Night at Harry & David Field.

Ashland High School alumnus Peyton Fuller (Oregon) went four innings; he gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out two. Both runs against Fuller came in the second inning on a string of tough luck plays.

A walk and two bloop singles loaded the bases for the Potters. Centerfielder Zach Hoffman hit a sacrifice pop fly to Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman). Hellweg’s throw was to the cut-off man at second base. The ball got by the cut-off man and hit the second base bag, which allowed the second run to score.

Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) extended his hitting streak to 13 games, when he hit an RBI single in the third inning, scoring Braden Stutzman (Oregon).

Johnny DeLaCruz (Louisiana-Monroe) plated Davis Delorefice (Utah) in the sixth inning to bring the Rogues within one.

With the Rogues trailing by three runs, Scotty Wright (Colorado Christian) hit a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth inning. Davis Delorefice (Utah), Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman), and Alex Isola (Utah) walked, which brought Wright home and the Rogues within two runs.

The Rogues failed to get anymore across, and the 6-4 score went final.

Aaron Hutchinson (Lane CC) pitched two innings in relief, struck out one, and gave up no earned runs.
