Clear skies returned to the Rogue Valley and the Medford Rogues claimed a 5-2 victory game one over the visiting Chico Heat in front of a crowd of 1,687 at Harry and David Field. The win leaves the Rogues with a 7-3 record in the Great West League while the Heat drop to 5-8.

The Rogues were led defensively by pitcher DJ Wilson who pitched nine complete innings to become only the third Rogues pitcher to toss a complete game. Facing the Heat, Wilson gave up five hits for two runs both of which were earned while walking two and striking out five. He finished the game with a 3.43 ERA and nabbed the win.

Offensively, the Rogues jumped on top of the visitors early thanks to right fielder Derron Davis being brought in by first baseman Chad Bell in the first inning to give the home side a 1-0 lead. The Rogues would post three more runs in the third inning before the Heat would respond with two of their own in the fourth. Medford added one more insurance run in the bottom of the eigth to close out the game with a 5-2 win.

At the plate, Davis was the leader with two hits from four at bats for two hits and one RBI. He finished the game with a .333 batting average. Bell also had a solid night with two RBI’s coming from three at bats and one hit. He ended the evening with a .250 batting average.

The Rogues and the Heat will face off tomorrow in a double header duel in order to make up with Friday’s rain out. The first game will begin at 4pm and the second game will take place at 6:35pm.
