Rogues Split Double-Header with Heat

Medford, Oregon - The Medford Rogues and Chico Heat faced off in what was supposed to be two, 7-inning games at Harry and David Field. The Rogues and Heat gave fans free baseball when both games needed extra innings to finish. Chico took game one of the double-header, 3-2 and the Rogues got revenge in game two with a 2-1 walk-off passed ball. The win leaves the Rogues with a 8-4 record in the Great West League while the Heat drop to 6-9.

In game one, the Rogues were led defensively by pitcher Kade Wagner. Wagner went seven innings, gave up six hits but struck out 8. He gave up two runs but no walks. Trenton Stoltz pitched the eighth and gave up one run on two hits and struck out two batters. Dylan Pierce came in for the ninth and walked one batter, giving up no runs and no hits. 

Scoring started late in the fifth inning for Medford, jumping to a 1-0 lead. The Rogues plated one more run in the sixth before the Heat answered with two runs of their own in the seventh. The ballgame stayed tied up until the 9th inning when the Heat scored off a lead-off double. The Rogues couldn’t answer in the bottom of the ninth and the Heat took game one, 3-2. 

At the plate, Spencer Steer was the leader, going 3-for-4 with one run and a double. Steer also scored the first run of the game for the Rogues. Cam Russ was also strong at the plate going 2-for-4 along with Brock Pradere going 1-for-3 with an RBI. 

In game two, the Rogues sent Reece Green to the mound who was solid through the first seven innings. Green struck out 4, walked 1 and gave up 1 run on 4 hits. Green’s ERA now sits at a healthy 0.64. Boone Cesarez came in for relief in the eighth and earned the win. He pitched the final two innings, walking 2 and striking out 2 but not giving up a hit. 

Spencer Steer went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double in the fourth. His batting average now sits at .500. Parker Kelly was a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth and reached base on a lead-off triple. Kelly then scored the winning run of the game off a passed ball, earning the walk-off passed ball, taking game two, 2-1 over the Heat. 

The Rogues head to Portland for the next series, June 21, 22 and 23. The Rogues will be back in Medford on Friday, June 24 for Country Night, June 25 for Paint the Park Pink and June 26 for Superhero Night.
