Medford Shutout Lodi in Game One

The Medford Rogues and Lodi Crushers faced off in the first of a three game series at Harry and David Field. The Rogues were able to hold onto an early lead and backed by strong pitching, shut out the Lodi Crushers 4-0 in game one. The Rogues maintain their number one spot in the Great West League with an overall 23-11 record and Lodi falls to 14-20.

The Rogues plated their first run in the first inning after Derron Davis reached on a groundrule double and was brought in by an RBI single by Spener Steer. The Rogues struck again in the fourth by an RBI single by Johnny Delacruz, his 16th RBI of the summer. Braden Stutzman brought in the third run of the game, extending the Rogues’ lead to 3-0. Steer reached on a triple in the eighth and scored off an RBI single by Cam Russ. Medford held the Crushers to the shutout in game one.

Medford was led by D.J. Wilson on the mound, in his 7th start of the summer. Wilson went 6 innings and gave up just 2 hits and no runs. Wilson now has a 6-0 record and a 2.57 ERA. Colton Westfall pitched the seventh in his debut for the Rogues with no hits and no runs. Tristain Duncan pitched the eighth inning and struck out 2 batters and gave up 1 run and now a 3.24 ERA. Parker Kelly came in for relief in the ninth and gave up 1 hit and no runs, improving his ERA to 3.31.

At the plate, Spencer Steer went 3-for-3 with 1 RBI, one stolen base and scored 2 runs and bringing in one run, improving his batting average to .325. Braden Stutzman went 1-for-4 with an RBI and now a .214 average. Cam Russ went 1-for-4 also with an RBI improving his batting average to .294.

The Rogues and Crushers face off again tomorrow night for Christmas in July benefitting Access at 6:35pm. The players will be wearing special edition, ugly Christmas sweater jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game with the proceeds going to Access. Fans will receive a $1 off their ticket for each non-perishable food item to donate to Access.
