MEDFORD, Ore. – Alex Isola (Utah) hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Rogues completed a three-game sweep of the Portland Pickles, winning 6-4 at Harry & David Field on Thursday night.

Like something out of a comic book, Isola stepped up to the plate with two outs, bottom of the ninth inning, and the bases loaded on Superhero night. It couldn’t have been written any better.

The Rogues got a run across in the bottom of the eighth inning, inching closer to a comeback, but the Pickles responded in the top of the ninth with a solo home run off the bat off Matt Starcovic.

Caleb Smith (Linn-Benton CC) got his first hit as a Rogue with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Davis Delorefice (Utah) walked. Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single.

Smith was thrown out at the plate on a force play, as Johnny DeLaCruz (UL-Monroe) reached on the fielder’s choice.

With the bases loaded, Isola took the belt-high fastball and sent it over the left field wall (in typical Superhero fashion).

Jaiden France (San Jose State) threw five innings, giving up one earned run, and striking out five. Bobby Wood (Kansas State) picked up his second win of the season.
