Rogues Win Close One

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (23-9) defeated the Portland Pickles (14-17) 5-4 on Monday night at Walker Stadium.

 

Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) singled with one out in the first inning. The Great West League Player of the Week, Alex Isola (Utah), then stepped into the batter’s box and hit a home run to left-center field, his fourth of the year. He extends his hitting streak to ten games.

 

In the top of the seventh inning, with two outs, two runners on, and the Rogues trailing 4-2, Isola delivered again. He hit a sharp double to left field that rolled to the wall, scoring Bryce Tilton (Western Oregon) and Valenzuela-Reece.

 

Johnny Delacruz (Louisiana-Monroe) then doubled home Isola to take the lead 5-4.

 

Isola finished the night 2-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

 

Connor Lowrie (Blackhawk JC) went 2-3 with two doubles.

 

Starting pitcher Jamie Flynn (Cornell) gave up just one earned run in 4.1 innings pitched.

 

Scotty Wright (Colorado Christian) pitched 2.2 innings in relief, struck out six batters, and earned the win.

 

Taylor Frost (Southern Idaho) earned his fifth save of the season.
