Rogues Wait til Sundown for Fireworks

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (24-9) defeated the Portland Pickles (14-18) 9-5 on Tuesday night at Walker Stadium.

The Rogues were blanked by Pickles starting pitcher Matt Hardy for the first five innings. And then, Alex Isola (Utah) stepped into the batter’s box. For the second straight day, Isola hit a home run over the 18ft. fence in left-centerfield. He now has five home runs on the season, and is in the top five for every major hitting category on the team.

That home run would spark fireworks that boomed and crackled around the ballpark for the rest of the night. Fireworks were clearly visible from multiple spots in the park.

The Rogues waited until the sun went down to show off some fireworks of their own; the team scored eight of its nine runs in the final three innings.

Eric Yang (UC Santa Barbara) hit a pop fly double to lead off the seventh inning. Dante Gutierrez (UC San Diego) singled, and Jayden Hanna (Lane CC) walked to load the bases.

Great West League RBI leader Davis Delorefice (Utah) singled to right field to score Yang. Isola then delivered a two-RBI single to put the Rogues on top 5-2.

The Rogues loaded the bases again in the eighth. Johnny Delacruz (Louisiana-Monroe) doubled to right-center field, which cleared the bases and put the Rogues up 9-3.

Starting pitcher Jaiden France (San Jose State) went 4.1 innings; he gave up four hits and just two earned runs, and struck out three.

Chris Painter (Riverside) earned the win, he pitched 2.2 innings and struck out two.
