ROGUES TAKE DOWN CRUSHERS IN GAME ONE

Medford, Oregon - In their first meeting in 2016, the Medford Rogues beat the Lodi Crushers in a game that came down to the final out of the ninth inning. Despite being down for most of the game, the Crushers loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning with no outs, but key defensive plays and strong pitching got the Rogues out of the bind and the first win of the series against Lodi.

The Crushers got on the board early by way of a leadoff triple by Chris Williams. The Rogues tied things up in the second with an RBI triple by Chad Bell then took the lead in the third when Johnny Delacruz scored off a passed ball. Scoring continued for Medford into the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly by Logan Burke and the Rogues led 5-3 over the Crushers.

Medford led 5-3 heading into the ninth inning. The Rogues went down in order in the top of the inning, leaving room for the Crushers to complete a comeback. Bryce Graddy got on base with a leadoff single and then was joined on the basepath by Chris Williams and Brett Young who were walked. With the bases loaded and one out, Gasberth Pacheco hit a fly ball to deep left field, which prompted Graddy to tag up at third and attempt to run home. Left fielder, Derron Davis, made the catch then fired it home to catcher, Jared Denning, who tagged out Graddy, the final out of the game.

DJ Wilson got the nod for the Rogues and had another strong outing. DJ went 6 innings, gave up 6 hits and three runs. Wilson struck out 4 Lodi batters. CJ Eytel, Jamie Flynn and Malik Evans made relief appearances for Medford, keeping the Crushers at bay.

Derron Davis had a solid night at the plate with two singles, a triple and RBI. Chad Bell also had a successful night at the plate with a triple, an RBI, stolen base and scored one of the runs for the Rogues. Rogues batters were patient at the plate as well, Crusher pitching walked 8 batters.

Medford and Lodi face off for game two of the three game series tomorrow night at 7:05pm at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi, California.
