CHICO, Ca. – The Medford Rogues (28-12) fell to the Chico Heat (23-18) 13-12 in ten innings on Friday night at Nettleton Stadium.

For the second consecutive game, Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) led off the game with a single. That hit extended his (and the) Rogues record to 17 consecutive games with a hit.

And for the second consecutive game, the Rogues loaded the bases with no out in the first inning. RBI by Johnny Delacruz (Louisiana-Monroe) and Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman) scored Valenzuela-Reece and Davis Delorefice (Utah) which gave the Rogues a two-run lead early.

The Heat would answer with one in the first and one in the second.

Chris Painter (Tennessee Wesleyan) came on in relief in the fourth inning with two on and no out, and escaped without allowing a run across.

The Heat put a few more on the board, and then Connor Lowrie (Blackhawk JC) singled home Hellweg in the sixth, which brought the Rogues to within two runs.

The Heat would answer with three runs in the seventh. With the Rogues trailing by six in the eighth inning, Jake Gozzo (Orange Coast) hit an opposite field home run over the right field wall, which scored Lowrie and brought the Rogues to within four.

The Rogues loaded the bases later in the inning, but only got one runner across on a sacrifice fly by DeLaCruz, scoring Valenzuela-Reece.

The Rogues headed into the ninth inning down by three runs. Eric Yang (UC Santa Barbara) and Lowrie walked, and Braden Stutzman (Oregon) singled, which loaded the bases. Valenzuela-Reece hit a two-RBI single to score Yang and Lowrie, and then Delorefice hit a sacrifice fly to score Stutzman, tying the game at 10.

Alex Isola (Utah) then belted a two-run home run home run to right-center field, which put the Rogues on top 12-10.

The Rogues gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth, failed to score in the 10th, and lost in extras 13-12.
