Rogues Sign Oregon Native Rice Article By: MEDFORD, Or. -- The Medford Rogues have signed southpaw pitcher Austin Rice from Whitworth for the 2019 season. Rice was named the game-one starter for the Pirates, and has pitched like it all season. He went 5-1 in 12 starts with a 3.66 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched in 2019. The sophomore's 8.08 strikeouts per nine innings led his Pirates team. Rice was also named to the All-NWAC second team this season. At Irrigon High School in Oregon, Austin set the school's record for strikeouts in one season with 159 as a senior. He was the Eastern Oregon League MVP and All-State pitching honoree in 2016 and 2017. He was a three-time All-League honoree as a pitcher and outfielder. The Golden State Collegiate Baseball League is a 8-team, wooden bat collegiate summer baseball league founded in 2012. The GSCBL is a showcase for top college-level players, giving professional baseball scouts a chance to see prospective pros playing against each other.
