Rogues Fall to Heat in Game One

Chico, California - On a warm and sunny Fourth of July in Chico, the Rogues and Heat faced off in game one of a three game series. It was another tough matchup on the mound as both teams were scoreless until the sixth inning. The Heat had a 4-run sixth inning and the Rogues were unable to comeback in the later innings and fell 4-2 to Chico. The Rogues maintain the #1 spot in the Great West League and now have an overall 17-7 record.

The Rogues were unable to plate any runs until the seventh inning despite multiple runners making it to third base. In the seventh, Johnny DeLaCruz reached a lead-off single then advanced to second base on a stolen base. He was then brough in to score the first run of the game for the Rogues with an RBI single by Derron Davis. In the eighth inning, Spencer Steer reached on a lead-off double then was brough home by an RBI double by Connor Lowrie. The Rogues went into the ninth inning trailing 4-2 and were unable to make up the deficit.

Kyle Robeniol earned his fourth start of the summer for the Rogues. He had a no hitter until the sixth inning when it was broken up by a double by Grant Heisinger. Four runs crossed the plate in the sixth off of four hits. Robeniol went 5.2 innings giving up four runs on four hits, striking out 4 and walking 2. Robeniol’s ERA now sits at 2.28. Tristan Duncan finished the final 2.1 innings not giving up a hit or a run improving his ERA to 5.19.

At the plate, Johnny DeLaCruz went two-for-four with two singles, two stolen bases and a run scored, improving his batting average to .273. Connor Lowrie also went two-for-four with an RBI and a double with a .308 batting average. Spencer Steer went two-for-four with a single, double and run scored in the eighth inning with a .346 batting average. Derron Davis also went two-for-four with an RBI double and single improving his batting average to .366, the third highest in the league.

Medford and Chico faces off in game two tomorrow night at Nettleton Stadium in Chico at 7:05pm.
