Purple Rain Clears as Rogues Beat Gold Sox

 Between purple bases and to the music of Prince, the Rogues took down the Marysville Gold Sox in game one, 5-3. The Rogues still hold the number one spot in the Great West League with an overall 26-11 record and the Gold Sox maintain the #2 spot with a 22-16 record.

The Rogues got off to an early 1-0 start in the first inning off an RBI by Cam Russ bringing in Derron Davis who reached on a lead-off single. The Gold Sox tied the ballgame and took the lead in the fourth inning plating two runs by Steven Mercado. The Rogues tied the game in the bottom of the fourth after Johnny Delacruz’s RBI triple and then Delacruz was brought in by Parker Kelly. Leading 3-2, the Rogues extended their lead with another RBI by Delacruz and had their last insurance run in the seventh off an RBI single by Connor Lowrie ending the game with the 5-3 win.

Kyle Robeniol pitched the first five innings for the Rogues and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He struck out 3 batters and walked 2 and finished the night with a 1.77 ERA. Tristan Duncan came in relief for Medford and pitched the final 4 innings and gave up just 1 run on 4 hits and struck out one. Duncan’s now ERA is at a healthy 2.61.

At the plate, Spencer Steer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a .333 batting average. Cam Russ also had a strong night batting going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI raising his batting average above .300, now at .306. Parker Kelly went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the fourth inning.

The Rogues and Gold Sox face off in game two tomorrow night at 6:35pm at Harry and David Field.
