MEDFORD, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (2-0) defeated the California Bees (0-2) 12-4 at Harry & David Field on Friday night.

It was a cloudy afternoon before the sun broke through to shine down on the 1,179 fans in attendance for our first KMVU Fox 26 Fill the Park Friday.

Omar Ortiz (Vanguard University) set the tone early for the Rogues with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the first inning to score Rogue Valley natives Joe Johnson (Vanguard University), James Turnbull (Simpson University), and Travis Danielson (Menlo College).

Central Point native Sebasten Boivin (Feather River College) came on in relief in the bottom of the second inning. He struck out six over five innings and allowed just one hit.

Johnson reached base safely in his first four plate appearances. His fifth at bat, he lined a baseball that was one-hopped by Bees first baseman Alec White to rob Johnson of his third hit. He finished the game 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.

Danielson led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a ringing triple down the left field line. He eventually came home to score on a fielder’s choice.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow at Harry & David Field for Bark in the Park Night. Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to the ballpark for just five dollars per dog. 100% of the proceeds from dog tickets sold will benefit SOHumane. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free doggy bone flashlight keychain, courtesy of Brad Linnell, State Farm.
