SAN RAFAEL, Ca. – The Medford Rogues (20-5) fell to Top Speed Baseball (19-4) 3-2 in extra innings at Albert Field on Thursday night.

For the first time all series, the Rogues scored first. Catcher Ryan Gamboa (Academy of Art University) hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left field in the third inning.

Turner Olson (Chico State) made another fantastic grab to rob Top Speed of extra bases. Olson flung himself into the right field wall to catch a ball hit off the bat of Robert Brooks to end the fourth inning.

Top Speed tied the game in the sixth inning with a solo home run of their own, off the bat of JC Santos.

In the seventh, Omar Ortiz (Vanguard University) reached on an error, and was pinch ran for by Trev’Von Dorsey. Maxx Mahon (Vanguard University) doubled to left to move Dorsey to third. With two outs, Olson hit a high bouncing ball to shortstop, and by the time the throw came to first, Olson was already aboard. The infield single scored Dorsey and gave the Rogues a 2-1 lead.

Top Speed had a runner at second base with nobody out in both the seventh and eighth innings, but starting pitcher and Phoenix, Oregon native Aaron Hutchinson left them both stranded.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Cameron Castaneda hit a game-tying solo home run off Hutchinson.

In the bottom of the 11th, Top Speed’s Garrett McCarthy homered to end the game.
