Rogues Sweep Storm

Johnny Radomskiy hit his second inside-the-park home run of the season as the Rogues defeated the South Bay Storm 9-7.

MEDFORD, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (35-12) defeated the South Bay Storm (9-31) 10-7 on Sunday evening at Harry & David Field.

With the second seed in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball league secured, the Rogues trotted out an unorthodox fielding lineup that featured five players in new fielding positions.  Medford native Travis Danielson (Menlo College) made his first appearance at shortstop of the season. With two on and nobody out in the top of the first inning, Danielson made a diving stop on a ball hit up the middle. He fed Maxx Mahon (Vanguard University) at second base for the first out, and Mahon fired to Ryan Gamboa (Academy of Art University) at first base to complete the double play.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Mahon doubled the other way to drive in Tyler Hollow (Dixie State), Devon Canty (Menlo College) walked, and then Mahon and Canty scored on the two-RBI single by Gamboa.

Ashland native Ty Mulholland (Presentation College) singled home Ben Kiefer (University of Northern Alabama) in the bottom of the second inning. Mulholland then stole second and third base before scoring on the RBI single by Danielson.

Turner Olson (Chico State) singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Johnny Radomskiy (San Diego Christian College) watched pick-off attempt after pick-off attempt go to first base. When then pitch finally came home, Radomskiy hit it deep to left-center field. Radomskiy hustled out of the box and went around the bases for a two-run inside-the-park home run, his second inside-the-park home run of the season.

South Bay batted around in a six-run seventh inning to tie the game at seven. Brice Foster (Menlo College) walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh and then broke the tie on a wild pitch. Omar Ortiz (Vanguard University) doubled to right field and then scored on the RBI single by Gamboa.

Caleb Broughton (Bucknell University) singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. He scored on an RBI double by Brice Foster.

South Bay loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Rogues catcher Ryan Gamboa back-picked Aaron Hoch at first base to end the game.

The Rogues will welcome the Hayesville Hammers to Harry & David to kick off the final home series of the season on Monday, July 22nd. Monday, July 22nd is the 2019 Team Poster Giveaway, courtesy of Harry & David. Fans will be handed a free 2019 team poster as they walk through the gates of Harry & David Field when the gates open at 5:30pm while supplies last. Tuesday, July 23rd is Fan Appreciation Night and the final home game of the year for the Rogues. With the #2 seed in the League secured, the Rogues have ensured they will only have to play one single-elimination playoff game to reach the GSCBL Championship series against the four-time defending League Champions, Top Speed Baseball.

The playoffs begin on Thursday, July 25th at 1:00pm. The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox and the San Francisco Seagulls will play a single-elimination game to see who will advance to play the Rogues later that same day.

The GSCBL Championship Series will begin on Friday, July 26th. Every Rogues playoff game will be broadcasted live on 96.1FM/580AM The Game and online at TheGame541.com.
