Rogues Win the Series in Chico

CHICO, Ca. – The Medford Rogues (29-12) defeated the Chico Heat (23-19) 7-5 on Saturday night at Nettleton Stadium.

 

Davis Delorefice (Utah) reached on an error in the first inning, and Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman) singled him home.

 

In the second inning, Dante Gutierrez (UC San Diego), Scotty Wright (Colorado Christian), and Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) all singled. Delorefice hit a two-RBI single, scoring Gutierrez and Wright, and then Johnny Delacruz (Louisiana-Monroe) hit a two-RBI single with two outs, scoring Valenzuela-Reece and Delorefice.

 

Valenzuela-Reece extended his hitting streak to 18 games.

 

Jake Gozzo (Orange Coast) singled up the middle to score in the fifth inning to score Gutierrez, putting the Rogues up 6-1.

 

Connor Lowrie (Blackhawk JC) waited until the ninth inning to get his first hit. It was an RBI triple that scored Hellweg from second, which put the Rogues up 7-5.

 

Alex Isola (Utah) and Gutierrez each had three singles in the game.

 

Starting pitcher Peyton Fuller (Oregon) went five innings, scattered six hits and struck out four, while giving up just two earned runs.

 

Taylor Frost (Southern Idaho) pitched a four-out save, his eighth of the year.
