Medford Drops Second Game to Chico

At Nettleton Stadium in Chico, the Rogues and Heat met for game two after the Rogues dropped game one last night. Trailing by 7 runs, Medford tied Chico in the seventh inning with a 7-run seventh but the Heat plated a run in the eighth and held on to win 8-7 over the Rogues in game two. Medford still sits at #1 in the Great West League with a 17-8 record.

The Heat started scoring early with a run in the first and then plating three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Trailing 7-0 heading into the seventh inning, the Rogues played small ball to get things going. Medford scoring started with a 2-run triple by Connor McNally who was then brought in by an RBI single by Derron Davis. Davis scored off an RBI single Brock Pradere. Spencer Steer then brought in Pradere with an RBI single of his own, cutting the Heat lead to 2 runs. With Steer and Connor Lowrie on base, Billy Fredrick hit a 2-run double to tie the ballgame up at 7. The Heat scored what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and held on to down the Rogues, 8-7.

C.J. Eytel got the start for the Rogues, going 3.2 innings giving up 2 runs off of two hits. Eytel struck out 2 and walked 4 batters and now has a 5.00 ERA. In relief for Eytel, Trenton Stoltz pitched 2.1 innings giving up 3 runs off of 4 hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Stoltz now has 11.81 ERA. Pitching the final 2 innings was Parker Kelly, who gave up one run off of one hit and 2 walks. Kelly’s ERA is now 3.68.

At the plate, Connor McNally went one-for-three with two RBIs, a triple and a run scored. McNally’s batting average improves to .225. Brock Pradere also had a strong showing at the plate and on the basepath. Pradere went two-for-five with one RBI and one run scored along with a stolen base. Pradere’s batting average now sits at a healthy .286.

The Rogues and Heat face off in game three tomorrow night at 7:05pm at Nettleton Stadium.
