JULY 28, 2020 - BOSTON, MA:  Former Rogues pitcher David Peterson made his MLB debut tonight for the New York Mets against the Boston Red Sox.  He gave up two runs and nothing more, becoming the first left-handed pitcher in 18 years to last at least five innings in a big league debut at Fenway Park.

He scattered seven hits while striking out three including three time MLB All-Star JD Martinez for his first career punch out.

"This is one of the greatest days of my life.  Something I've wanted to do since I was a little kid," said Peterson. "To go out there and make my first Major League start and get the win, I couldn't have asked for much more.  Being in a historical place like Fenway and having the history with the Red Sox drafting me out of high school. It all came together.  I’ll never forget this.”

Peterson pitched for the Rogues in 2014 posting a record of 5-1 with a 3.75 ERA while recording 32 strikeouts in 48 innings.  Peterson came to the Rogues as a four-year letterman at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado. Where he was drafted in the 28th round (854th overall) by the Boston Red Sox but chose to not sign.

After playing that summer with the Rogues, Peterson went on to pitch for three seasons at the University of Oregon. As a junior, Peterson finished 11-4 with a 2.51 ERA with a school-record 140 strikeouts in 100.1 innings pitched.  Peterson was selected by the New York Mets with the 20th pick in the first round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.

Peterson is the third Rogues player to make the big leagues joining Seth Brown (Oakland Athletics) and Ramon Laureano (Oakland Athletics).
