Rogues Need Extras to Beat Heat in Game 2

The Medford Rogues and Chico Heat faced off in game two at Nettleton Stadium in Chico after the Rogues took game 1 last night. The Heat got off to an early 1-0 lead but the Rogues tied the ballgame in the third. After nine innings of play it was knotted up at 2-runs a piece and the fans at Nettleton got free baseball. The Rogues plated two runs in the tenth and beat the Heat 4-2. The Rogues win their 12th game in a row and still sit atop the Great West League with the 30-11 record. The Heat fall to 23-19 on the season.

The Heat crossed the plate first in the first inning and led the Rogues 1-0 until the third inning. Spencer Steer tied the ballgame up after he reached on a lead-off single. Spencer Steer reached in the eighth with a lead-off double and was brought in by a Heat error to put the Rogues ahead, 2-1. Then in the bottom of the ninth inning, Chico tied the game with a Cameron Olson homerun that sent the game in to extras. In the tenth, Steer, had an RBI triple that scored Derron Davis and then Cam Russ brought in Steer to make it a 4-2 game. The Rogues held on in the bottom of the tenth and took the series from the Heat.

Kade Wagner had his seventh start of the summer for Medford and went 6 innings and gave up 1 run on 2 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3. Wagner’s ERA now sits at 1.57. Dylan Pearce came in relief in the seventh and pitched the one inning and walked two batters but struck out one. Kyle Robeniol pitched the eighth and did not give up a hit or run and struck out one, now with a 1.72 ERA. Parker Kelly pitched the final two innings and gave up the tying run in the ninth and struck out 1 batter with a 3.76 ERA.

At the plate, Spencer Steer was responsible for all 4 runs; he scored three of them and then brought in the winning run. Steer went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIS and a run scored, improving his batting average to .363. Robby Teel went 2-for-4 improving his average to .235.

The Rogues and Heat face off again tomorrow night in the series finale at 7:05pm at Nettleton Stadium in Chico, California.
