Harry and David Field will have a fresh look on opening day next spring

Medford, ORE - Residents may have noticed activity at Harry and David Field this off season where the Medford Rogues collegiate baseball team plays in the summer months.

Crews are replacing the ballpark’s natural grass field with a Bermuda grass variety that is resistant to drought, requires less water and mowing, and heals quickly from damage. The turf, known as Tahoma 31, is also used in professional and college stadiums, including Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium and the Los Angeles Coliseum.

The resurfacing project is made possible through the city of Medford’s biennial budget process as part of the overall turf replacement plan for Lithia & Driveway Fields. The Rogues have played at Harry and David Field since the team was founded in 2012.

“It is going to be incredible for our athletes to play not only on one of the best field surfaces in Oregon, but in the entire country,” Medford Rogues General Manager Jeff Weiss said.

Clay Wood, the longtime head groundskeeper for the Oakland Athletics, has been consulting with the city on the resurfacing. Wood was with the A’s for more than 30 years and his crew was responsible for transforming the Oakland Coliseum from a baseball field to a football field and back again each fall.

Harry and David Field opened in 2005 and underwent a renovation to accommodate the Rogues in 2012. The ballpark is also home to the American Legion Medford Mustangs, Medford School District, and hosts several community events.

The Rogues are an inaugural member of the newly formed Pacific Empire League. Their 2026 regular season runs from May 28 through July 26.
